What to evaluate a DPP platform on
The criteria that separate platforms, regardless of which logo is on the slide deck.
Standards and interoperability
Does it align with GS1 (identifiers, Digital Link), CIRPASS concepts and the emerging CEN-CENELEC JTC 24 / EN 18000-series standards, so your passports stay portable as the rules settle?
Data model and carriers
Can it issue unique product, operator and facility identifiers and support QR, GS1 DataMatrix and RFID/NFC carriers at the granularity you need (model, batch or item level)?
Access-rights management
Does it support differentiated, need-to-know access for consumers, repairers, recyclers and authorities, and protect commercially sensitive data?
EU registry readiness
Is it preparing to connect to the central EU DPP registry (due before 19 July 2026) and to keep data in the decentralised model the regulation expects?
Sector fit
Is it proven in your product group? Textiles, batteries and general industrial needs differ; a battery-passport specialist is not automatically a textiles fit.
Pricing and lock-in
Is pricing transparent, does it scale from SME to enterprise, and can you export your data and identifiers if you switch? Much of the market does not publish pricing.
Hosting and jurisdiction
Where is data hosted, under which jurisdiction, and does that meet your data-governance and procurement requirements?
Interoperability hinges on the emerging standards. The EU-funded CIRPASS-2 runs real-world DPP pilots across textiles, electronics, tyres and construction, a useful reference point for what interoperable, standards-aligned passports look like in practice.

What is Digital Product Passport software?
DPP software is a platform that generates, hosts, serves and governs the data behind a Digital Product Passport. It issues unique identifiers, attaches data carriers (QR, GS1 DataMatrix, RFID/NFC), manages differentiated access for different audiences, and is built to connect to the EU DPP registry. The market is growing on the back of ESPR and the EU Battery Regulation, and interoperability hinges on the emerging CEN-CENELEC JTC 24 and GS1 standards.
Which is the best DPP solution?
There is no single best; it depends on your product group, your data and your procurement constraints. A battery-passport specialist is not automatically a good textiles fit, and vice versa. Compare on standards alignment, data model and carriers, access-rights management, EU registry readiness, sector fit, pricing and lock-in, and hosting jurisdiction. We deliberately do not rank vendors, because the right choice is situation-specific.
How much does DPP software cost?
Most vendors do not publish pricing, so our table marks it "Not public" unless a band is publicly stated. Publicly available signals suggest a wide spread, from lighter SME tiers up to enterprise contracts. Ask each vendor for pricing against your volume and product group, and watch for data-export and identifier-portability terms so you are not locked in.
Should we buy DPP software now or wait?
It is early. The cross-sector standards (CEN-CENELEC JTC 24, EN 18000-series) are still being finalised, expected around 2026, and most product groups’ delegated acts are not yet adopted. The exception is batteries, where the passport is mandatory from 18 February 2027.
